The E-Class has long been a staple in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup, but it’s been due for significant updating as of late. Mercedes-Benz addresses this with the release of the all-new 2017 E-Class and its new base model, the E300.

With the current lack of a V6 engine in non-AMG models, the E300’s 2-liter four-cylinder is all there is now. This was a bit alarming to us at first, but once we drove it, we found this 241-horsepower engine was plenty powerful. With up to 30 mpg highway, we were also pleased with its thriftiness.

The overall look of the E300 was a pleasant surprise. Sure, we could see the pictures and get a great idea of it, but actually sitting in the S-Class-inspired cabin was a totally different experience. The dash wraps around you, enveloping you in high-end materials and technology, while its horizontal orientation make the cabin feel roomier than it actually is.
