I am using a regular metal frame for a queen size bed.

You will be amazed how small this is when it arrives. But when you take it out of the box and unfold it....WOW....it become an awesome box spring. I ordered the one for a twin bed, but had a friend who got the queen size and she said it was the perfect size and she easily carried it down a narrow hallway. Good luck. I collapses and folds down. It is really incredible! We had to do the same with our old queen box spring. I was sceptical at first with this one, but it is awesome. Strong and compact. Who would have thought. Definitely recommend and completely worth the price!

The box that the boxspring is delivered in is small and narrow. I was able to get it up my narrow stairwell with no help and no problems.

I had to ditch my old queen box spring because it wouldn't fit in the stairwell when I moved. Is this a true split queen?

If your frame has a center support from head to toe and a lip along the sides to hold up the box spring, you will not need a plywood.

No plywood was used, and I have a memory foam mattress on top that fits perfect and is held perfectly.

We didn't use plywood slots just placed in runs on bed frame seems to be fine.

I understand what you are asking. You are not asking about the frame support needed for this box-spring, correct? You are asking if this box-spring can support a memory foam mattress, correct? The reason you are asking this, is because memory foam mattresses need a solid surface box-spring, so that the underside of the memory foam mattress will not conform to the skeleton of the usual box-spring framing.
Okay...
If you check the pictures of this product, you will see that a picture of the framing under the cloth cover, is provided. Although the box-spring is covered with a solid cover, it does not have a solid surface under that cloth cover. When the memory foam mattress is placed on this box-spring, the pressure will be uneven on the cloth, as compared to the pressure on the metal framing. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that you should place the 1/4 inch panel of plywood between the box-spring and memory foam mattress.
Of course, memory foam is forgiving, but if you want longevity from both the mattress and box-spring cover...
(the cover will stretch and sag, as the unsupported memory foam
applies pressure to it.)
...then you should play it safe by giving the memory foam mattress, the usual and recommended support it needs, from a solid surface box-spring.

This box spring was exactly what my son needed in his new house.  It is an old farmhouse with narrow steps and little headroom.  There was no way were getting his full size box spring up those steps. This folding box spring was the perfect ticket.  It was easy to get up the stairs and easy to set up.  Nice, inexpensive alternative to traditional bedding.

Product is so light weight that I carried it up 2 flights of stairs by myself with little issue. I'm only 5'3" tall and have very basic upper body strength. Assembly was a piece of cake! I am very satisfied with this product!!
I coupled the box spring with the 6" mainstay coil mattress and south shore smart basic twin platform bed! Worked out very well!
