B&B stands for Bed and Breakfast, which is a great option for lodging when you need a relaxing escape. Besides the unique rooms and the history, B&Bs often provide better value than hotels.
Bischwind Inn is located just outside of Wilkes Barre, in Bear Creek, Pennsylvania. The coolest part of this B&B is you can stay in Theodore Roosevelt Suite, which is named after - you guessed it - President Theodore Roosevelt. He stayed in the room in 1910, and again in 1914. It was a really nice trip to unwind from a busy work schedule and enjoy the beauty of the Pocono Mountains.
History of Bischwind Inn
This is the mug I bought from Bischwind B&B gift shop. The image printed on is what Bischwind Inn looks like in the 19th century. According to historical records, Bear Creek Village evolved in the 19th and 20th centuries as a company town designed to support the industrial activities occurring there, and the lifestyle of successful business leader, Albert Lewis. Since the industrial enterprises of Albert Lewis were located in a rather remote area, it was necessary to provide living accommodations for workers, and the various services required of Albert Lewis and his family. Lewis constructed single houses and boarding houses for the immigrant workers he hired, reveals a heavy emphasis on the communal boarding of workers, and several early company boarding houses are believed to remain.
There are only 8 guest rooms inside of this private house. Each of them has a unique layout, furnishing style, and decoration. The price range is around $200 -$300 per night, depends on the season and room type.
Even though it named The Master Room, it actually is the smallest room. The amenities include an electric fireplace, A/C, Queen bed, a bathtub and additional step-in shower, and a small walk-in closet. The decoration is definitely cozy and gorgeous.
Yes, this is the suite that President Roosevelt stayed in. Named after its most famous guest, it beguiles those who sleep here. Besides the regular amenities, It has a private library and traditional fireplace inside this suite. This elegant suite made me feel quite presidential.
It's really great to have such a unique experience staying here. The property is gorgeous - both inside and outside.
What Credit Card to use?
I was using my Chase Sapphire Reserve card to pay for the stay. The card comes with a $300 annual travel credit. I received the $300 credit back only 3 days after I checked out. And I also earned 3x points for the stay. Its current sign-up bonus is 50k points.
If you feel the annual fee for Chase Sapphire Reserve is too high, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card may be a better choice. You don't have the $300 annual credit, but its annual fee is only $95. Its sign-up bonus is also 50k points. The major difference is Chase Sapphire Preferred card offers 2x points on travel and dining, while Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 3x points on travel and dining, and the points value for travel redemption is different.
