On the front there is a black plastic rectangular latch. The bottom half of it has a raised lip to right hand side as you are facing it. Gently slide it to the right and then downward arching to unlatch. You should not have to force it.

The latch attached to the lower half of the box rotates clockwise to unlock. I hope this helps. Take care.

Turn the top of the latch to the left. The bottom of the latch has the catch .Turn the bottm to the Right. After opened then they snap back together.

We almost unscrewed it, then realized the top and bottom of the latch untwist from each other. Easier than it looks, just play with them carefully until the part from each other.

It slides counter intuitively. The bottom piece gets pulled down and the top piece pulled off to the left. It is odd and I leave it unlocked. What is inside is a true treasure.

It took me a second to figure it out, but take your left index finger and put it in the middle of the lock. Then push it to the right. the top doesn't move while the bottom swings down. It's kind of tricky but adds to the collection.

The lock is a two (2) part interconnecting latch that are shaped like two L's that hook into each other. Use your thumb nail to feel the raised area on the bottom latch and push it to the right; it should separate with the bottom portion moving to the right, the upper portion moving to the left. I know, it's tricky.

Turn it sideways. The bottom half of the lock twists clockwise.

I had problems at first too. Push down, then slide the bottom 1/2 out.

Try “alohamora”. That usually does the job!

I cant seem to open the trunk....I dont want to break the lock, please answer. Thanks.

We can't get the American version here in the States as Scholastic had those ridiculous changes made to the wording. I went into each book and put a line through the word or phrase that was different and with a sharp mechanical pencil wrote in the correct word. You can possibly still go on line and google changed words in Harry Potter and a wonderful person put the changes and page numbers up to through book 4. The American illustrations are however, better.

This is a very nice cardboard keepsake for your hardback collection. Purchased for my daughter who is a huge Harry Potter fan. She loved it. There are stickers included that you can add to the “trunk”. It arrived quickly and without shipping damage.

well. this was supposed to be a surprise for my daughter and the box was marked in large print "Harry Potter box collection". needless to say this arrived while Im at work and she sees it. No longer going to be a surprise for Christmas..

Ruined my surprise for Christmas completely- totally disappointed in that!

Other than that I guess ok

The books are of good quality but the outer case is just printed cardboard making the original price very questionable as to why it's so high. I first opened it up and the cardboard on the inside has already fallen in like it's not glued further adding to the mundane opening. The clip holding it closed is loose and barely holding onto the box making it feel like it will pull off rather quickly.
