Editor's Pick: It clips onto your keychain without taking up space. When you're at a furniture store wanting to measure a tabletop, or estimating the width before buying curtains, you can just pull it out and use it on the spot. The 6-foot length is enough for everyday measuring, the tape retracts automatically when you let go, and the metal casing holds up fine after a few bumps. Keep one in a drawer at home so you don't have to dig through the toolbox when installing shelves or hanging wallpaper.
