AMD officially announces two X3D processors: 5800X3D Anniversary Edition returns, 7700X3D debuts

AMD recently unveiled the highly anticipated 3D V-Cache collections new products. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the AM4 platform, the legendary model Ryzen 7 5800X3D returns with an anniversary edition; meanwhile, a highly competitive Ryzen 7 7700X3D has been introduced for the AM5 platform, further lowering the entry barrier for high-performance gaming processors.

🔹 Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary, price: $349. This edition retains the same specifications as the original, featuring 96MB of L3 cache.

【Highlights】: Launches on June 25, and comes with a complimentary Carbice Ice Pad premium thermal pad. On the same DDR4 memory platform, its gaming performance leads the i9-14900K by approximately 10%, making it a standard choice for returning users upgrading their system.

🔹 Ryzen 7 7700X3D, price: $329. Based on the Zen 4 architecture, its clock speed is slightly reduced to 4.50 GHz for better cost-effectiveness.

【Highlights】: Launches on July 16, serving as a budget-friendly alternative to the discontinued 7800X3D, offering an optimal choice for AM5 players on a tight budget who still want 3D V-Cache technology.

With its price advantage, the 7700X3D has become a benchmark model worth considering. However, for the "veterans" still using the AM4 platform, the 10th anniversary edition 5800X3D serves as a high-performance solution to extend the life of their current systems. For players planning to build a new platform, the story is different.

Its point of contention is also clear: as an older CPU, its price is even higher than the 7800X3D in many promotions, and its performance doesn't match newer platform models. If you're just looking at cost-effectiveness, it's indeed easy to criticize. But here's the thing: it's not targeting players ready to set up a whole new system. It's for those who already have an AM4 motherboard and DDR4 memory, and don’t want to replace the entire platform just to upgrade the CPU.

Right now, the overall cost of a DDR5 platform is still not cheap. Additionally, resuming production of a discontinued product can bring extra costs, so its pricing shouldn't be judged solely based on it being an old-gen processor. If you have enough budget, upgrading directly to AM5 is, of course, the smarter choice.

But if you just want to squeeze a few more years out of your existing AM4 system, this CPU still offers real value. So, what do you think? Is this pricing reasonable?
