"The Witcher 3" Releases New Expansion After 12 Years — "Old Times"
Yesterday (May 27th) news: CD Projekt Red officially announced the third complete expansion for the 2015 classic game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: "Songs of the Past". This comes 12 years after the game's initial release. The announcement was originally scheduled for a livestream on May 28th but was made public due to a leak.
"The medallion is humming, and that can only mean one thing." The official post on X reads, "A new expansion will take you back on 'The Path' with Geralt of Rivia."
■ Co-development & Progress
This expansion is being co-developed by CDPR and Polish studio Fool's Theory, the latter of which is also responsible for the remake of the original The Witcher game. More details are expected to be announced this summer.
■ Release Details & Platform Estimates
| Supported Platforms | Release Date |
| PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 | Within 2027 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | TBD (Possible Enhanced Version) |
Given the studio's proactive stance early in the Switch 2's lifecycle and its history of releasing a high-quality port of Cyberpunk 2077, the industry is optimistic about The Witcher 3 making its way to the new handheld platform.
■ About The Witcher 4
The release date of "Songs of the Past" has raised concerns among fans about the sequel. Since the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo last year and the trailer released at the TGA Game Awards 2024, there has been little activity around The Witcher 4. With development resources still partially focused on the third game's expansion, it's highly unlikely to see the sequel before 2027.
