Switch "Pokémon: Champions" Release Date Announced, Launches April 8th

The Pokémon Company has announced that the new battle-focused game Pokémon Champions will officially launch on Nintendo Switch on April 8, 2026. The game will follow a free-to-play model with optional in-app purchases for certain items, and is positioned as a strategic competitive game.

🔹 Core Gameplay and Cross-Platform Support

Developed jointly by Game Freak and The Pokémon Company, the game faithfully recreates the depth of core battle mechanics including type advantages, abilities, and move selection. iOS and Android mobile versions are scheduled for release in summer 2026, with support for cross-platform battles with the Switch version.

🔹 Hardware Support and Next-Generation Updates

The developers have confirmed that the game will receive free updates to make it compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 next-generation console. Players will be able to access enhanced graphics and visual improvements on the more powerful hardware through a patch.

🔹 Product Versions and Starter Pack Contents

In addition to the basic version, a Pokémon Champions Starter Pack bundle will be released simultaneously. This paid version includes expanded storage space and early-game enhancement items, ideal for efficiency-focused players.

🔹 Connected Services and New Mega Evolution Forms

The game will support importing Pokémon from previous games through Pokémon HOME, and will debut the following new Mega Evolution forms with unique abilities:

• Mega Meganium: New ability "Super Sun," which significantly increases power in sunny weather.
• Mega Emboar: Features the "Mold Breaker" ability.
• Mega Feraligatr: New ability "Dragonize," which converts Normal-type moves to Dragon-type.

🔹 Pre-registration Rewards and Battle Pass Information

All players who download and log in before August 31, 2026, will receive a Dragonite as a gift. The first season's Battle Pass will include Mega Evolution stones for Pokémon including Greninja and Delphox.
