Prime Day is back again, twice a year! The year-end edition is usually a preview of Black Friday trends. We're not into fake hype or impulse buying here—our one core goal is to spend money wisely. We've already filtered out the gimmicks where prices go up first and then drop, and directly identified the tech staples that are truly hitting "annual lowest prices." Plus, you all know Amazon's return policy—even if you're worried about a lower Black Friday price, you can order now and return it if you find a better deal later, guaranteeing you get the lowest price!

Apple

• AirPods

AirPods have always been the Apple product line most likely to see great Prime Day deals, especially the AirPods and AirPods Pro series. AirPods Pro 3 is Apple's current flagship noise-cancelling earbud, with upgrades focused on active noise cancellation, fit stability, workout heart rate sensing, and battery life—making it ideal for commuters, fitness enthusiasts, and video conference users. AirPods 5 just launched, so discounts will likely be limited, but the AirPods 4 is very likely to see all-time low clearance prices. If the noise-cancelling version drops to around $99 and the standard version drops below $69, those are prices worth considering.

• iPad

Apple raised prices across the board this year, and iPad discounts have gone up accordingly. So the logic is clear: on a budget, go with iPad A16; for light productivity and note-taking, go with iPad Air M4; for portable entertainment, go with iPad mini A17 Pro; and only consider iPad Pro M5 if you truly need video editing, drawing, or mobile productivity. For most average users, iPad Air M4 will be the best balance of experience and price this year.

• Apple Watch Series

Apple Watch's lineup was also just updated this year, with Series 12, Ultra 4, and SE 3 targeting mainstream users, outdoor sports users, and entry-level users respectively. That said, the older Series 11 should see good discounts; if the SE 3 drops to around $199 during Prime Day, it'll be a great choice for gifting and first-time buyers; and while the Ultra 3 is positioned higher, if it falls below $699, it'll be quite appealing for outdoor sports users and heavy Apple Watch users.

• MacBook / Mac

Macs took the biggest price hikes this year, generally up $100-$300. The one most worth watching for average users is the MacBook Air M5. It's still the most suitable Apple laptop for students, light productivity, and everyday use. If the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 drops to just over $1,000 during Prime Day and the 15-inch comes down to around $1,249, those are fairly solid buy prices. The MacBook Pro M5 series is more powerful, but discounts usually aren't as straightforward as the Air—better suited for pro users watching for short-term price drops on high-end configs.

• Apple Other / Accessories

Apple accessories aren't usually the most expensive items, but Prime Day often brings great small deals perfect for add-ons or gifting. AirTag remains a practical accessory for travel, checked luggage, and pet owners; Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C should be chosen based on your iPad model—don't buy blindly; and Apple TV 4K is still a very stable streaming and smart home hub if you're already in the Apple ecosystem.

Buying Advice: The Apple products most worth watching this Prime Day, in order of priority, are AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, iPad Air M4, MacBook Air M5, and Apple Watch SE 3. While the iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, and high-end MacBook Pro M5 series may also see short-term discounts, Apple's new products usually hold their prices fairly firm—unless there are gift cards, limited-time price cuts, or carrier subsidies, don't rush to buy just for a small discount.

Echo Smart Speakers

Voice assistants can be considered the central hub of overall smart home integration. They can connect with various smart home products and execute voice commands, essentially freeing you from remote controls. The current mainstream voice assistant is Alexa on the Echo series.

Speaking of Echo, we have to mention its sister brand Blink's security devices. Blink's main competitors are Amazon's high-end Ring series and independent brands like Eufy. Both Blink and Ring have been acquired by Amazon, becoming important pieces of the Amazon Echo ecosystem puzzle. Blink's prices are about 50%-70% of the other two, but you get what you pay for—basic functions are complete and the ecosystem is solid, but premium content and community features leave something to be desired. Monthly cloud storage fees are similar across all brands, so you can do some research in advance.

Sony/Bose

These two brands are grouped together because Bose and Sony headphone products have a high overlap in target users, and Amazon is exactly where the two fanbases go head-to-head every time. The fact that they can compete proves both products have notable strengths (otherwise wouldn't it be one-sided domination?). Whether it's true wireless earbuds or over-ear headphones, Sony and Bose are probably the most popular choices besides Apple—over-ear models might even be more popular than Apple's AirPods Max. Over-ear headphones not only cost less than the Max, but their bigger advantage is being lighter and more portable, with some models being foldable, plus there are more affordable options available.

Sony and Bose TWS earbuds aren't as popular as their over-ear models, mainly because Apple's ecosystem support for AirPods is just too good; but if you're an Android user, the XM6 and Ultra 2 are your best choices!

We mentioned home security products in the Echo section above—let's go into more detail here. With alarming incidents happening frequently in the U.S. these days, having security devices not only helps you prepare ahead of time but also gives you more evidence and liability protection when something bad happens. (Remember the case this year where a drunk intruder broke into a Chinese couple's home and was shot—without surveillance footage, the homeowner might not have been cleared so quickly.)

Amazon's Alexa voice system, as one of the most well-known smart home ecosystems in the U.S., is naturally very compatible with all mainstream home security systems. You don't need to worry about buying devices from multiple brands that can't work together. Amazon acquired Ring and Blink, two influential smart security companies, so both Ring and Blink support Amazon's own Echo devices very well—like video doorbell feeds and security camera footage being instantly displayed on Echo Show, Fire tablets, and other products. And Echo Dot and other devices can control them directly via Alexa voice commands, which is very convenient.

Should you buy Ring, Blink, or Eufy? Our recommendation is that Blink is great for budget-conscious buyers, as well as apartments and shared housing with limited space. Ring and Eufy are better for larger homes with more devices to connect—especially Ring's security bundles (usually starting at 8 pieces) are perfect for single-family homes.

What you need to do is plan now for how many indoor cameras and outdoor cameras you want to buy this year, whether you need a door/window alarm system, whether the doorbell should be wired or wireless, etc. During Prime Day, all products will hit your brain with a dozen different bundles. Generally, the more devices in a bundle, the better the value per device.
