Editor's Pick: Renting with a small kitchen counter, a dish rack usually takes up half the space. This one expands and contracts—on weekdays, just wash a few dishes and keep it narrow; on weekends, stack up plates and pull it wide. It's quite flexible. The drainboard has a slope, so washed dishes let water flow down the tube into the sink, keeping the counter dry.

: Is the slope of the water guide plate steep enough? If it's too gentle, the water flow will slow down, and over time, scale can build up at the bottom, requiring frequent scrubbing.
