Editor's Pick: It's no longer surprising to see Hi-Fi manufacturers making gaming headphones, with companies like Audeze and Dan Clark Audio having been in the space for years. However, it's rare to see one directly carrying the logo of a major gaming brand, especially one as prestigious as ROG.

For most gamers accustomed to closed-back, dynamic driver headphones, Kithara's price might raise the question: "Why is this headphone so expensive?" But one glance at its core specifications reveals this isn't just any gaming headphone—it's a flagship Hi-Fi monitoring device in ROG clothing.

Kithara's key advantage is its massive 100mm planar diaphragm driver. Technically, it integrates HIFIMAN's core technologies: Stealth Magnets and Neo Supernano Diaphragm (NsD). Although not explicitly stated which Hi-Fi product line it corresponds to, its ultra-wide frequency response of 8Hz - 55kHz and low impedance/high sensitivity characteristics of 16Ω suggest it's closer to the highly acclaimed Ananda or Edition XV architecture. This means you're getting more than just a peripheral with a microphone—you're investing in a professional-grade planar headphone with top-tier acoustic qualities, offering soundstage width and detail resolution in a completely different league.

In actual gaming, this hardware advantage delivers an immediately noticeable experience. Ordinary gaming headphones often artificially boost certain frequency ranges to enhance "positional audio," resulting in thin and harsh sound. The Kithara, however, creates a natural physical soundstage through its open-back design, complemented by the lightning-fast transient response of the planar diaphragm. This allows you to precisely isolate enemy footsteps amidst chaotic explosion sounds. This "positioning" isn't simulated through algorithms but is a physical reproduction—sounds aren't just flat information stuffed into your ears but spatial entities with depth and dimension.

Addressing the driving concerns of Hi-Fi enthusiasts, Kithara makes a clever compromise. Unlike the Arya, which demands significant amplification to reach its potential, Kithara's 16Ω low impedance means you can connect it directly to a gaming controller or computer motherboard and still get 70%-80% of what this large driver can deliver. It also includes a 4.4mm balanced cable. For discerning users with a decent DAC/amp, switching to the balanced connection transforms the Kithara, revealing unparalleled full-frequency control and transparency unlike traditional headphones, with a background as black as deep space.

Most impressively, ROG has integrated a professional full-range MEMS microphone into this otherwise "delicate" Hi-Fi frame. With a frequency response range of 20Hz - 20kHz—far exceeding typical microphones—it ensures your tactical communications are as clear as a radio broadcast.

The core logic behind these headphones is simple: they combine ROG's industrial design and convenience with a high-end planar core that even Hi-Fi enthusiasts would appreciate. If you think they're expensive, it's because you're viewing them as consumable peripherals. However, if you see them as an audio terminal that gives you a "physical advantage" in games while delivering flagship Hi-Fi quality for music, their value proposition becomes exceptionally high.

: If you're not in urgent need and just want to try it out, you can wait to buy it when you return to Mainland China. The launch price on JD.com is 999. If you buy a second-hand one on Xianyu, it will be even cheaper.

: Ananda is still quite easy to drive. Even though the ROG's built-in audio dongle is pretty lousy, just grab any decent 4.4mm dongle and you can get it to perform decently.

: It's just that the eyes are marked as Ananda, and it comes with a microphone cable and a detachable headphone cable. Actually, it's pretty good; it includes two practical cables.

: Better than the XS for watching movies, with good dynamic range and soundstage. Low impedance, sensitivity unknown, easy to drive. All HIFIMAN headphones are just too big and heavy.

: 299 is acceptable if it's for the Ananda, but you'll also need a headphone amp, and it's for listening to music. Using planar magnetic headphones for gaming probably isn't as good as Razer.
