Like the 21361 Gremlins: Gizmo, this set's origin came from a competition with an 80s throwback theme. We must mention the movie that inspired this set: "The Goonies," an American adventure comedy film released in 1985, directed by Richard Donner with Steven Spielberg serving as producer and story developer.

The film tells the story of a group of kids living in a small town in Oregon who, in an effort to save their homes from demolition, accidentally discover an old pirate treasure map and embark on a thrilling adventure filled with danger and discovery. For many viewers, this movie represents carefree childhood, adventure dreams, and team friendship. Therefore, when LEGO released "The Goonies" themed set, it was seen as a tribute to "reliving youth and the spirit of adventure."

This film is also a quintessential piece of 80s pop culture, standing alongside "E.T." and "Back to the Future" as symbols of Hollywood's golden age of family adventure films in the 80s. The set contains 2,912 pieces and measures 14 inches (36 cm) high, 24.5 inches (62 cm) wide, and 7 inches (18 cm) deep. Movie fans can build and recreate iconic scenes from the film (like the pirate ship "Inferno," caves, and booby traps), allowing them to "return" to the world of the movie.
