Sony Releases MDR-3R USB-C Headphones Recreating the Classic 1979 Design
Sony has officially launched the MDR-3R wired headphones today. Modeled after the MDR-3 headphones that shipped with the original 1979 Walkman, this new release preserves the retro aesthetic while upgrading connectivity to the modern mainstream USB-C interface for true plug-and-play convenience.
▫️ Design Heritage: Features an open-ear on-ear design with stainless steel sliders and aluminum details. The standard version comes with classic blue and orange interchangeable earpads, and the packaging is a faithful recreation of the original 1979 design.
▫️ Hardware Upgrades: Equipped with a newly developed 23mm Micro Dynamic Receiver. The cable integrates a microphone and multi-function inline controls for calls and volume adjustment.
▫️ Lightweight Comfort: The body has been optimized down to 38g. It's lighter than the original 1979 version, making it suitable for all-day wear.
🔹 MDR-3R Stranger Things Collaboration Edition
Sony is also releasing a Stranger Things collaboration edition inspired by the headphone style worn by the character Max. It features an exclusive red and black colorway, a matte headband engraved with the show's logo, and custom "Upside Down"-themed packaging, making it a highly collectible piece.
