Editor's Pick: In 1946, Piaggio produced the world's first scooter—the Vespa. In 1952, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck rode a Vespa through the streets of Rome in the movie "Roman Holiday," creating iconic scenes that helped sell over 5 million Vespas to more than 130 countries and regions worldwide.
The name "Vespa" means "wasp" in Italian, named for its slim waist and flowing lines. The Vespa was invented to distance the scooter from the traditional sporting competition of anti-war motorcycles, making it instead a lightweight means of transportation to ease daily work. Even stylish women like Hepburn wearing flowing dresses could easily ride one.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Vespa brand, LEGO created this 18+ model using rare light blue LEGO bricks, interpreting this symbol of love and romance. This was also one of Vespa's original production colors.
Like the original, this buildable Vespa model features a front wheel mounted on one side, two seats, a removable engine cover with a brick-built engine underneath, a foldable stand, and a steering mechanism that connects the handlebars to the front wheel.
Detailed decorations include the Vespa logo, a classic 1960s Italian license plate, a spare tire, a helmet, and an accessory basket featuring a bouquet of flowers on the back.
The model includes 1,106 pieces and measures 8.7 inches (22 cm) high, 4.7 inches (12 cm) wide, and 13.8 inches (35 cm) long when built. Speaking of Italian style, the Fiat 500 (discontinued) is another must-have. When placed side by side, the blue Vespa is much larger than the Fiat!
