Editor's Pick: This is one of LG's new products showcased at CES 2024, featuring the updated MLA+ (Micro Lens Array Plus) technology, which is the 2nd generation of micro prism technology (the successor to OLED evo, known as LG Meta OLED's second generation). It achieves a peak brightness of 1300 nits and a full-screen brightness of 275 nits, a significant improvement over the previous generation MLA OLED's full-screen brightness of 200 nits, making it highly usable during daytime.
The image above shows LG OLED technology evolution. The first-generation WOLED is represented by the classic OLED C9 and CX models. The second-generation EX technology, also known as OLED evo, is familiar to most users and was used up to the C3 model. META OLED introduced micro prism technology (MLA) to further enhance OLED brightness.
The image above shows a heat map of light passing through a traditional OLED panel (middle school physics: light undergoes refraction and reflection when passing through different media). You can see that a significant portion of light is reflected and refracted by the panel, resulting in brightness loss.
After implementing micro prism technology, as shown in the image, by adjusting parameters such as the shape, focal length, arrangement structure, and duty cycle of the micron-level micro lens array, the light transmission efficiency is improved, effectively enhancing the OLED panel's brightness.
According to LG's statement, META 2.0 MLA+ can increase OLED brightness up to 3000 nits, while last year's META OLED LG G3 already achieved a peak brightness of over 2000 nits, matching Samsung's S95C. Although monitors don't need to compete with TVs on brightness and must consider the risk of screen burn-in from displaying static images for long periods, the 34GS95QE with MLA+ still delivers 1300 nits peak brightness and 275 nits full-screen brightness. Combined with AGLR anti-glare coating, 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time, and 800R curvature, it provides an excellent immersive experience for HDR video and gaming.
