Editor's Pick: Spring is here again! Every year at this time, my gardening enthusiasm starts to stir. Seeing other people's diverse and beautiful potted plants, I finally decided to join in! However, while flowers are beautiful, choosing a suitable home for them is equally important. I've researched several different types of planters and will share their pros and cons with you, so you can decide which one is best for your "garden babies"!

Planter Type Advantages Disadvantages

Terracotta Planters

Known as "breathable" planters. Perhaps due to their simple appearance, they beautifully complement the plants and are suitable for most plant varieties.

Terracotta is relatively fragile, and not ideal for plants that prefer humid environments. If using these planters, you'll need to water frequently.

Plastic Planters, Resin Planters

Compared to other types, these planters are lighter, more durable, and come in many styles. They're typically the choice for beginners and are relatively more affordable.

Unlike terracotta planters, these materials aren't very breathable, so plants must rely on drainage holes at the bottom.

Wooden Planters

Good breathability. Wood has low thermal conductivity, which helps protect plants from extreme temperature changes, ensuring more stable growth conditions. Generally used more for flower beds. Carbonized wooden planters are better as they're more rot-resistant.

Prone to decay and mold growth.

Ceramic Planters

Moderately priced, and mainly they look good, look good, really look good! I'm sold on their aesthetics alone.

Best for hardy plants, as ceramic is not very breathable. Glazed planters look beautiful but are even less breathable and lose moisture quickly. They work very well as decorative outer pots.

Cement and Composite Material Planters

Slightly better breathability than ceramic planters. Simple and stylish appearance that complements industrial or Nordic home decor styles. And they're very durable!

They're really heavy! I had to use all my strength to bring it home. Women with less physical strength should be cautious about buying these.

: Plastic pots for me. For large plants, other pots are just too heavy for me to handle.

: Cement pots are great to use, but they're probably a hassle to move.
