On January 5, 2026, the LEGO Group officially unveiled the new interactive platform LEGO® SMART Play™ at CES 2026 Consumer Electronics Show. This represents one of the most significant technological innovations in brick play since the birth of LEGO minifigures in 1978.
LEGO SMART Play™ uses innovative technology to create an almost "living" experience with traditional bricks. At the heart of the platform is the LEGO SMART Brick — identical in appearance to a regular 2×4 LEGO brick, but containing custom chips, sensors, speakers, and other components that can detect flipping, shaking, colors, and surrounding elements, responding instantly with light and sound effects. The SMART Play system also includes SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures, which can interact with the smart bricks to create even richer interactive experiences.
The official introduction emphasizes that this system requires no screens or apps, allowing children to experience technological interaction through purely physical play, continuing LEGO's tradition of "open-ended physical play." The SMART Play platform will be compatible with existing LEGO brick systems, enabling older brick sets to join in the new play experience.
The first sets featuring SMART Play technology will officially launch on March 1, 2026, with the initial products coming from the classic Star Wars collections, including Red Five X-wing Starfighter, Darth Vader's TIE Fighter, and the Imperial Throne Room Duel. These three "All-In-One" sets not only can be assembled but will also trigger cool sound effects and interactive feedback based on different scenarios.
Overall, LEGO SMART Play™ represents LEGO's bold attempt to incorporate advanced interactive technology into its traditionally focused brick toys, aiming to inspire children's creativity and imagination through screen-free experiences while bringing classic brick play into a new interactive era.

: I don't quite understand how this works. Does it make a sound when you press it? 没大看明白是怎么个玩法,按一下就有声音?

: If I were the designer, I would embed the wires inside the bricks and place contact points at the external connection areas. By assembling them in a specific sequence, the circuit would be connected. Then, a battery box could supply power, and the light brick sets would illuminate, and so on. 如果是我设计的话,我就把线埋在砖块里,然后在外部连接的地方放触点,按照一定的顺序拼就能联通电路,然后有电池盒供电,灯组砖发光什么的
