The Moon Shoe isn't just any random collaboration. There's an incredible story behind it! In 1972, Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman wanted to provide better traction for runners, so he used his wife's waffle iron to handcraft this unique waffle-patterned sole. The imprints these soles left on the ground resembled astronaut footprints on the moon's surface, hence the name "Moon Shoe"! It made its debut at the Olympics the same year Nike was founded.
Since only a small number of prototypes were originally made for testing by 1972 Olympic athletes, the original Moon Shoe is extremely rare and valuable. One pair even sold for nearly $437,500 at a Sotheby's auction! When you think about it, getting this collaboration for $180 is an absolute steal!
