Universal Kids Resort is a new family-themed park launched by Universal Destinations & Experiences, located in Frisco, Texas (north of Dallas). Its biggest highlight is that it's specially designed for families with young children, targeting kids aged 3-10 years old, rather than being geared toward older kids and thrill rides like Orlando's Universal Studios. The official announcement states that it will officially open on July 1, 2026.
The entire park is more like an "immersive kids' vacation destination," featuring: themed zones, children's rides, interactive experiences, character meet-and-greets, water play areas, a family-themed hotel, restaurants, and gift shops.
The official announcement has revealed 7 themed zones:
1. Shrek’s Swamp
Based on Shrek, featuring a wet play area, interactive fun, and fairy-tale-style experiences.
2. SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom
SpongeBob-themed zone, expected to offer boating school, underwater world interactions, and plenty of mild rides for young kids.
3. Jurassic World Adventure Camp
Dinosaur-themed adventure zone, including kid-friendly coasters, dinosaur interactions, and climbing activities.
4. Minions vs. Minions
5. TrollsFest
6. Puss in Boots Del Mar
7. Isle of Curiosity (from Gabby’s Dollhouse)
These zones are overall more focused on interaction, immersion, and play areas, rather than the high-thrill roller coasters found at traditional Universal parks. The park will be paired with a family-themed hotel of about 300 rooms. The hotel itself will be very colorful and vibrant, with many room types accommodating 5-6 guests.
Currently announced ticket options include: single-day tickets, two-day tickets, annual passes, and hotel packages. Children under 2 enter for free. Single-day tickets start at around $54.99, and annual passes start at around $129.99. Actual prices will vary by date.
Compared to Universal Orlando, Universal Kids Resort targets younger children, offering a smaller yet more refined experience with play-based, interactive attractions. It's suitable for a one-to-two-day visit and feels more like a family-friendly park. If your child is still in kindergarten or early elementary school, this new park may be more relaxing and better suited than Orlando Universal.
