iOS 27 Epic Update: iPhone Handoff Now Supports One Number on Two Devices

Apple introduces the iPhone Handoff feature in iOS 27, finally solving the pain point for users who carry two iPhones. This feature allows users to switch seamlessly between two iPhones and use one phone number on both devices simultaneously.

🔹 How It Works & Highlights

Yesterday, a developer showcased how the feature operates. Using eSIM technology, the number can be extended to the secondary device, much like an Apple Watch:

  • Automatic Activation: The number automatically switches to the device that is currently unlocked.
  • Real-Time Notifications: The Dynamic Island will display a notification confirming that cellular service has been successfully transferred.
  • Location Sync: Location sharing in Find My will be based on the currently active iPhone.

🔹 Setup Process

Users need to define device roles in Settings > Cellular: the Main Device keeps the primary eSIM and manages settings; the Companion Device receives the paired eSIM for seamless handoff.

📱 Carrier Support

This feature requires carrier adaptation. Based on code clues, North America's T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom are expected to be among the first to support this service.

iOS 27 is currently in Beta 5 testing, with a public release expected after the "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9. Do you guys think this feature is practical?
