: Tried several pairs today from On, Salomon, and Hoka. In my opinion, Salomon is just terrible . They're originally trail shoes, not meant for street wear, and they're less comfortable than Skechers Panda shoes . The soles are not soft at all, and the overall structure of the back and sides is "rigid," simply hard. But to be fair, they're not designed for indoor sports or walking around, so they're not for me. However, I understand the appeal, much like Alexander McQueen—the moment you try them, you know you'll never buy them, but it doesn't affect how stylish they actually look. On has different series as well. The regular Cloud feels as hard as concrete, while the Cloudmonster is pretty good, meeting my comfort standards. Personally, I think it's due to the different hollow sole structures. The Cloud and similar models seem like a hard midsole resting on a bunch of piers, making the entire shoe feel like walking barefoot on a bridge, with no bounce whatsoever. In contrast, the Monster and similar models have a few holes dug into a solid thick sole, similar to Hoka and other competitors in the same price/quality range, but a bit less than top-tier options like Nike and Saucony. Whether its holes exist or not, the foam remains foam, soft as ever. As for Hoka, there's nothing much to say—the magic of their soles matches the perplexity of their designs . I'll possibly end up buying a pair of plain Bondi or Clifton (recommended Clifton for lighter weight, Bondi for heavier, but it's a 60-40 chance; you can't go wrong with either). Tried a beige pair today that was nice, though white is too hard to maintain. Summary: My requirements for shoe soles are higher than anyone I've known for years—literally anyone. I mention this for reference; what I find uncomfortable doesn't mean it won't be comfortable for you. However, no matter where your baseline for comfort is, the relative order remains; athletic shoes like On and Hoka are more comfortable than outdoor shoes like Salomon. For example, the Cloudmonster beats the Cloud by a mile [laugh]. And if you feel comfortable in Alexander McQueen, Doc Martens, and Timberlands, then I can only say that's a gift—don't give up easily and be cautious about making the ones I recommend your main shoes, as there's no going back otherwise [playful].
