# Beginner's Guide to Pet Care | Cat Edition
**Foreword:** Adopting a pet should not be an impulsive decision. You are responsible for their entire life, so please consider carefully and avoid acting on impulse!

**Essential Daily Supplies:**
* [Cat Bed](#4): The editor believes this is not essential, as cats often prefer cardboard boxes over anything else. When cats first arrive in an unfamiliar environment, they typically hide under sofas, beds, or tables. Once comfortable, kittens generally prefer sleeping close to their humans.
* [Litter Box](#5): We recommend buying Large or Jumbo sizes that provide more space for comfort and eliminate the need to upgrade as your cat grows. Covered boxes or top-entry models are better as they effectively contain odors and prevent litter tracking. Don't forget to also purchase a [litter scoop](#6).
* [Cat Litter](#38): Initially, use the same litter as the cat shelter or breeder to avoid confusion for your kitten. Later, you can switch to your preferred litter (start by mixing both and gradually transitioning to the new one).
* [Food and Water Bowls](#70): Dining essentials are a must. Since cats often don't drink enough water, consider getting an automatic water fountain - cats prefer drinking from moving water.
* [Cat Tree](#115): Kittens are naturally playful and active. A cat tree satisfies their need to climb while providing sisal-covered scratching surfaces to maintain their claws. If possible, place multiple scratching posts or boards around your home to protect your furniture.
* [Toys](#116): Just buy them! Wand toys, laser pointers, motorized mice, etc.

* [Dry Food & Canned Food](#118): For cats who don't drink enough water, consider feeding more wet food and canned food to compensate for inadequate water intake.
