Nintendo Switch 2 Review
Nintendo Switch 2 unboxing is here! I've finally received this highly anticipated new console and completed the initial unboxing and setup. Though I haven't officially started playing games yet, just the hands-on experience already reveals Nintendo's thoughtful upgrades.
The overall impression: Familiar formula with refined evolution, giving the feeling of "Ah, this is what the Switch should have been all along!"
In this article, I'll quickly break down what makes this new console so impressive - from its appearance and feel to control details, system interface, and accessory design!
- Design Evolution: Bigger, Yet Surprisingly Appealing
First impression of the Switch 2: "Isn't this just a larger version of the original Switch?"
But looking closer, there are actually quite a few changes.
Most notably, the 7.9-inch screen is approaching tablet size, yet the body remains only 0.5 inches thick, making it surprisingly lightweight and comfortable to hold.
The matte finish on the body significantly enhances the quality feel, completely eliminating the fingerprint-prone plastic shell of the first generation. It feels much better to the touch from the moment you pick it up.
- Joy-Con 2: Magnetic Connection is a Winner! Finally Good Ergonomics
The new Joy-Con controllers are one of Switch 2's hidden surprises:
The magnetic connection experience is excellent - just align and bring them close, and they snap into place with a satisfying "click." It's smooth and high-tech feeling, much better than the previous rail system.
The joystick resistance feels gentle and smooth, providing an Xbox Elite-like premium experience.
The textured back provides a more stable grip that doesn't slip or dig into your hands.
While the SL/SR buttons are still slightly small, they're overall more practical and finally don't feel like "included afterthought controllers."
The new controllers also have a little surprise: they automatically enter "mouse mode" when placed on a table, which is incredibly intuitive and shows how this generation's system integration is much smarter.
- Screen Quality: Not OLED, But Still Impressive
Although it doesn't have the wow factor of the first-generation OLED version, the Switch 2's LCD screen still performs admirably:
- Resolution increased to 1080p, making system interface text noticeably sharper and clearer.
- Narrower screen bezels maximize immersion.
- Color reproduction is more natural, without the "heavily saturated" look of OLED, making it better for extended viewing.
- Good anti-glare performance in sunlight with a wider brightness adjustment range.
Even without running games yet, just browsing the settings menu and startup screens shows this "visual evolution" - I'm eager to see how actual gameplay further showcases the screen's advantages.
- Tabletop Experience: Small Changes, Big Usability
The Switch 2's tabletop experience has clear upgrades with more thoughtful details:
The USB-C port has moved to the top, eliminating the awkward "tilted charging while playing" problem of the previous model. Now the built-in stand can firmly support the console while charging.
The new kickstand covers the entire back, greatly improving stability and offering a wider range of adjustable angles, making it more convenient whether you're watching videos, playing multiplayer games, or using GameChat video calls.
- Not Revolutionary, But a Flawless Upgrade
The Switch 2 doesn't take a revolutionary approach, but instead gets every detail just right.
The screen is larger and clearer, controls are smoother and more comfortable, tabletop mode is more practical, the system interface is cleaner, and even features like video calling have been considered.
For veteran players, it's "the familiar formula with the familiar taste"; for newcomers, it's a fully evolved portable-home console hybrid.
If you're still deciding whether to jump in, consider these three key points:
- ✅ Are you looking for an enhanced portable gaming experience?
- ✅ Do you want across-the-board improvements in graphics and controls?
- ✅ Do you own the original Switch but skipped the OLED model and want a smooth upgrade?
If your answer is "yes," then the Switch 2 is definitely worth considering!

: The resolution has been upgraded to 1080p, without the "overly saturated" look of OLED. Are Nintendo players really this easy to please?
: Everyone says they won’t buy, yet every retail app shows it’s sold out here and there.
: Hunger marketing with limited sales, isn't that how many mobile games operate? Anyway, there are always some rich fools, and the remaining regular players just covet it but can't buy it, which both guarantees profit and makes it seem very sought-after. Not being able to read e-books or watch videos, it's not appealing to me at all anyway.

: What’s so great about it…?
: Be realistic. Of course promotional posts will hype it up to lure buyers. Do you expect them to say, “Our product breaks easily, has tons of issues, take it or leave it…”? You think they’d pack it with top-tier specs and sell it for thousands?
回复 @匿名用户 : For now, nothing’s great. Maybe when they integrate a GPU for better graphics… haha.
: Stock is plentiful, but my local stores are crowded. Gotta go further out to find one.
: The controller port got roasted. Watch some reviews before deciding.
: Just wait for a price drop. Such a generic product, yet priced like it’s still the pandemic era? Highway robbery!
: Hold on, wait for the OLED version.
: This product should’ve been released two or three years ago... 。。
: If you own the 1st gen, it’s a no-brainer to upgrade. For 2nd gen owners, you might want to wait for the next minor upgrade with an OLED screen, as switching from OLED to LCD would feel like a downgrade.
: OLED screens are eye-strainers. Doesn’t your eyes hurt after staring at it for long? Check the tests—Switch’s OLED is a 240Hz flashbang screen.
: I'm very satisfied with the OLED upgrade from the first-gen model; now, I'm waiting for the second-gen OLED with a 5nm chip and better battery life.
: How many years do we usually have to wait?
回复 @三姨家的二狗子 : The first generation was updated almost every two years. For the second generation, I’d guess an upgraded version will come in about a year, since switching to a 5nm chip would improve battery life and heat dissipation.
