Editor's Pick: In Fuji's X series cameras, the X-E series has always maintained a low-profile presence. The newly released Fujifilm X-E5 keeps its rangefinder-style design and compact size while receiving comprehensive upgrades in image quality, controls, and video capabilities, making this "artistic street photography camera" once again the focus of photography enthusiasts.

Key Specifications

  • 40MP BSI CMOS APS-C sensor
  • In-body image stabilization up to 7.0 stops
  • Dual clickable command dials
  • Dedicated film simulation dial (supports "Film Recipes")
  • 2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder
  • Tilting touchscreen (1.04 million dots)
  • Video recording up to 6.2K/30fps (1.23x crop)
  • Continuous shooting: 8fps with mechanical shutter, 13fps with electronic shutter
  • Microphone input port, headphone monitoring requires USB adapter

Highlights

  • Film Simulation Dial + Recipe System

One of the X-E5's most eye-catching features is the film simulation dial on top, which can store three complete "film recipes" (including grain effect, highlight/shadow tone, color curves, and color density). Each recipe can be independently adjusted and assigned to FS1~FS3, making it extremely user-friendly for film enthusiasts and color grading enthusiasts.

  • Finally Equipped with In-Body Stabilization

Compared to its predecessor X-E4, one of the X-E5's biggest upgrades is the addition of five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) with compensation up to 7.0EV. It features a new gyroscope and algorithms that improve edge image stability. Even when paired with non-stabilized prime lenses, it allows for easy handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds.

  • Enhanced Control Dials and Retro Viewfinder Mode

The X-E5 restores the dual-dial design and reintroduces the focus mode selector on the side; the front of the camera now features a "self-timer lever" structure similar to the X100VI, which can be customized with up to 5 functions; the viewfinder supports a classic red text retro interface that simulates the exposure indicator style from the film camera era, maximizing the nostalgic experience.

Body Design and Handling

Compared to the X-E4, the X-E5 is noticeably heavier: weighing 445g, the leather wrapping on the edges and the thumb grip provide a more secure handling experience. The top buttons have a premium metal feel, and with the new dial layout, the entire operational logic clearly returns to the style beloved by early Fuji enthusiasts.

However, the camera still has a single SD card slot (with UHS-II support) and uses the NP-W126s battery, the same as the X-T50 and X-S20 models, with an actual battery life of over 300 shots and USB-C charging support.

Competitive Comparison

The X-E5's price point approaches full-frame products and is even on par with Fujifilm's own X-T5, which offers a larger viewfinder, higher resolution screen, dual card slots, and weather-sealing. However, the X-E5's advantage lies in its lighter and more portable form factor.

Worth mentioning: The X-E5 paired with the new 23mm F2.8 lens is currently the closest combination you can get to an "interchangeable lens version of the X100VI."

In summary, the X-E5 is a Fujifilm camera designed for those who love life, featuring a heart-stirring aesthetic and impressive image quality in a lightweight package that accompanies you to capture every touching moment.

: Just buy the camera back home; the prices in North America are ridiculously high.

: I bought the X-T5 for 1499 two years ago... The X-E5 is really expensive.

: Fujifilm rangefinder cameras are still fun, but the GFX50R and GFX100RF are also enjoyable to play with.
