This release event primarily featured the first Android XR platform headset—Galaxy XR. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip with Android XR operating system, and has built-in Gemini multimodal AI (which can see, hear, and speak), supporting voice/gesture/eye movement controls. The display features 4K micro OLED with up to approximately 90Hz refresh rate, includes head/eye/gesture tracking, and comes with a detachable battery pack that offers approximately 2.5 hours of official battery life. U.S. pricing is $1,799.99, with initial launch in the U.S. and Korea.
Since it runs Android XR, many common services are available right from the start: Google Maps, YouTube, Google Photos all have immersive versions, working with Gemini for "visual search, circle-to-search, and natural language commands" among other operations. The device covers scenarios from entertainment to work. Simply put, it's not just for "watching movies on a big screen," but brings common Android apps directly "into your spatial environment."
Comparison with Vision Pro:
- Price and positioning: Galaxy XR at $1,799, Vision Pro (M5) at $3,499, a difference of about $1,700. Samsung clearly adopts a "lower barrier to entry" strategy, while Apple maintains its premium positioning.
