: It's a long story. I started with the 1000XM2, and the background noise was unbearably loud. Switched to the 1000XM4, and after a year, the noise-canceling microphone malfunctioned—it starts squeaking after an hour of use. A large number of people on Reddit have the same issue, but Sony doesn't care and refuses to acknowledge it as a performance defect. I hope this comment doesn't get buried. Sigh, if I can convince even one person, it's worth it. Long-time users supported them with real money, only to have their loyalty betrayed.
