The MDR-3R no longer uses a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, but instead switches to USB-C, allowing direct connection to compatible smartphones and other devices with no charging, Bluetooth pairing, or updates required. The earphones also feature an inline remote and built-in microphone, supporting music controls and calls. In terms of audio configuration, Sony equipped the MDR-3R with the same 23mm driver units as the original MDR-3, retuned to preserve the original sound signature while adapting to modern listening needs. Sony says the new earphones deliver natural vocals and balanced sound performance.
