Apple M6 Chip Officially Unveiled: 12-Core CPU Architecture with Significant AI Performance Boost

Apple has officially introduced the M6 chip in the new Mac mini. As a brand-new chip built on a 2-nanometer (2nm) process, the M6 delivers a comprehensive upgrade across all computing units, achieving significant leaps in both performance and energy efficiency.

🔹 Graphics performance and on-device AI acceleration

Each core of the M6 chip's 12-core GPU integrates a neural network accelerator, paired with a brand-new dual 16-core Neural Engine, delivering up to 2x the peak computing power of the previous generation. When running large language models (LLMs), prompt processing speed is approximately 13.5x faster than the M1 chip and about 4.8x faster than the M4 chip.

🔹 Developer and professional video support

Developers can now leverage M6 hardware resources through frameworks like Core ML. Additionally, the new Mac mini introduces support for Genlock synchronization technology for the first time, enabling precise frame synchronization between the display and iPhone 17 Pro camera devices — making it a new powerhouse for professional video production.

The new Mac mini with the M6 chip starts at approximately $899, with pre-orders now open and official release scheduled for September 22. Also unveiled at the event were M5 Pro/Max/Ultra chip models with even more powerful performance.
