Apple Plans to Upgrade Genmoji with Autosuggest Feature in iOS 27
According to the latest issue of the Power On newsletter published by Mark Gurman on May 17, 2026, Apple is planning to introduce a significant update to Genmoji in iOS 27: Suggested Genmoji, based on users' personal photo libraries and keyboard history.
| System Version | Genmoji Feature Evolution |
| iOS 18.2 | Feature first debuted. Supports generating emoji-style images with simple prompts. |
| iOS 26 (Note 1) | Expanded deep customization options, and supports mixing two different emojis. |
| iOS 27 | Suggested Genmoji. Automatically generated and suggested by the system based on context and personal photos. |
🔹 Core Mechanism: AI Actively Understands Usage Context
In iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, a new Suggested Genmoji toggle will be added to the keyboard settings. This feature no longer relies on users manually entering prompts; instead, it analyzes users' photo library and common typing habits to predict and generate personalized emojis that fit the current context.
🔹 Privacy Considerations and Operating Mode
Given that automatically accessing the photo library and input history may raise privacy concerns, Apple has made this feature optional, allowing users to turn it off at any time in settings. Current indications suggest that the feature may still run entirely on on-device models to ensure data security.
🔹 Editor's Note
This feature is currently based on leaked information and is not an official announcement from Apple. Therefore, whether it will ultimately launch and which devices it will support remain uncertain. It is also not yet confirmed whether Genmoji in iOS 27 will still rely entirely on on-device models. Since the report does not mention a significant upgrade to the image generation model itself, it may continue to primarily use local processing. However, until Apple officially announces it, the specific implementation method still requires further confirmation.
