ChatGPT Directly Links Bank Accounts: AI-Powered Personal Finance Management
Want to manage your finances but don't have time to organize your bills? Starting May 15, 2026, OpenAI is officially launching a personal finance feature preview for Pro users in the U.S. By connecting your bank account directly to ChatGPT, the AI assistant can shift from general advice to providing precise spending analysis and money-saving recommendations.
🔹 Deep Support for Major Institutions
This integration is powered by the Plaid platform, supporting over 12,000 financial institutions, including popular services commonly used by the North American Chinese community:
| Category | Institutions / Platforms Included |
| Traditional Banks | Chase (JPMorgan Chase), Citi (Citibank), and more |
| Financial Services | Affirm (buy now, pay later platform), Robinhood (online brokerage) |
🔹 How to Get Started
Eligible Pro users can find the Finances section in the ChatGPT sidebar, or simply enter the command @Finances, connect my accounts. The system will guide you through authorization via Plaid, then automatically generate a visual asset distribution dashboard.
🔹 Privacy and Security Considerations
- Read-Only Access: The AI can only read balances, transactions, and liabilities, and cannot access full account details.
- No Unauthorized Actions: The system strictly prohibits any transfers or account changes through ChatGPT.
- Full Control: Users can disconnect at any time or delete the AI's saved financial memories in settings.
- Data Protection: Related prompts and financial information are not used by default for OpenAI's future model training.
According to OpenAI's official statistics (as of press time), over 200 million users seek financial guidance through AI each month. This feature is currently in a limited preview phase, with plans to gradually roll it out to Plus subscribers in the future.
