[Expired]Hidden Risks in Switch 2 "Banned Consoles"
Shortly after the Switch 2 release, Nintendo has unleashed a full-force crackdown on piracy. Due to the console's backward compatibility feature, some users attempted to run Switch 1 games through modified cartridges, resulting in Nintendo's system ban. These consoles were permanently banned, cutting off all network services.
The device in question is the "MIG Switch" flash card, which can be used to run official game backups or illegally downloaded games. Although Nintendo has long tried to restrict such tools through technical blocks and legal measures, a recent firmware update from MIG developers broke through these limitations, making it work on Switch 2 again.
However, this "victory" was short-lived. Multiple players reported on social media that their consoles were quickly banned after using the MIG Switch, losing all online service privileges. While the accounts themselves remain unaffected, the consoles are permanently banned. One user warned: "Even if you've only inserted the MIG cartridge once, it could trigger a ban."
As Nintendo intensifies its crackdown on Switch 2 hacking, some banned consoles have begun appearing on the secondhand market.
These devices typically come with tempting price tags, but due to the ban, they cannot connect to Nintendo's network services and can only be used for offline gaming.
Some sellers honestly label these as "banned consoles" or "offline-only," but more often, buyers only discover the inability to connect online after receiving the product. By the time they try to return it, the seller has already "vanished."
Recently in Japan, a banned Switch 2 was sold at a price significantly below retail, but the listing clearly stated it "cannot download content," serving as a strong warning.
Some buyers have attempted to appeal for unbanning through official channels, but Nintendo's stance is very clear: Even if the current owner wasn't the one who violated the terms, as long as the device has a history of improper use, the ban cannot be reversed, and the buyer must bear the loss.
Before making a purchase, be sure to verify the product's condition. When encountering consoles with suspiciously low prices and vague descriptions, it's best to exercise caution!

: All new games require online verification and download, right? If it gets banned, does it just become a Switch Gen 1?
: Brick, can't even log in to verify identity. Some games even require an online update just to launch, can't even play single-player mode.
: Hmm... the current hack can't crack NS2 games yet, it only works for NS1 games. But you can still play using cartridges as usual. emmm

: What's the difference between cracking and getting banned? Both are lone warriors. Whether it requires an internet connection or not, you're playing by yourself anyway. I choose MiG
: Flashcarts are like an invincible existence, breaking the capitalist's exploitative model. They're just a bit expensive, otherwise, no issues, just play to your heart's content.
: Playing cracked versions and self-banning are essentially the same. You don't have to worry about game updates at all—Taobao sellers sync them all the time. Honestly, it doesn't matter. Besides, if you didn't buy the membership, you couldn't play online anyway. Getting banned from a feature that was supposed to be paid-only makes no difference—you lose nothing. If you need online play, then go for the legit version. It's all just personal choice.
: Don't buy the first version of Nintendo consoles, and don't buy subsequent versions of Sony (Uncle's) consoles. Looking at the hardware and build quality, Switch 2 is really bad lol.
: It's actually quite interesting that the early version of switch1 could run Windows, isn't it?
: Wouldn't it be fine if it's not connected to the internet 0.0
: It probably requires an internet connection for identity verification, you can't play without verification.

: Nintendo's anti-piracy mechanism is the worst among all home consoles, but their legal team is the most formidable.
