Hollow Knight is a 2D Metroidvania-style action-adventure game developed by the Australian independent game studio Team Cherry. It was initially released on PC on February 25, 2017, and later launched on console platforms. The Steam version is priced at 58 yuan, and as of August, it has sold over 15 million copies. On Steam, it has received more than 197,000 reviews with a 97% positive rating, ranking 33rd on Steam's top-rated games list.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced by Team Cherry on February 14, 2019. Due to limited updates and only trailer releases without a confirmed launch date, fans jokingly nicknamed it "Silksong the Pigeon" (referring to its constant delays).

The YouTube account "Daily Silksong News" has consistently provided daily updates about Silksong for nearly 1700 days.

At the recent Gamescom event, Silksong finally revealed its release date trailer, and it will be available to players on September 4th.

Silksong will maintain the original game's uniquely beautiful art style and classic Metroidvania gameplay while featuring a new protagonist and combat system. Players will control Hornet, a character from the original game who uses needle and thread as weapons and has an all-new move set. Hornet's movements are more agile and elegant than the "Little Knight" from the previous game, with more precise dash and jump controls that allow for accurate enemy attack avoidance. The combat has been upgraded to include over 150 new enemies and interactive objects, with more spectacular battle animations. Compared to the previous game, this title encourages a more aggressive playstyle, allowing players to accumulate energy by attacking enemies to trigger health recovery. As the equipment system gradually expands, the combat experience will offer more depth.

Unlike the original game which had only one central town, this sequel features multiple town centers with a more intricate quest system that encourages players to repeatedly explore the world.

 

Quest types include hunting, collecting, pathfinding, and major hunts. Level design is more complex, featuring metal elevator mazes and semi-hidden levers that require players to fully utilize their mapping and exploration skills. Many paths require reaching dead ends before finding breakthroughs. Exploration remains one of the core pleasures of this game and is a unique charm of 2D Metroidvania games.

The game has now been released with overwhelmingly positive reviews overall, though the Simplified Chinese reviews are mixed, with most negative feedback focusing on translation issues. Team Cherry's PR and Marketing Director has acknowledged this problem in a statement and expects improvements to be made within a few weeks.
