Editor's Pick: Microsoft has truly broken from tradition this time by launching this brand-new 12-inch Surface Pro without any teasers or launch events. In contrast, this model is not yet available in China, and pricing has not been announced. According to official timelines, it's expected to launch in China no earlier than July. This new product isn't simply an upgraded version of the Surface Go, but represents Microsoft's comprehensive redesign of its flagship small-sized tablet computer, inside and out.
The Surface Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus octa-core processor, equipped with 16GB of RAM and 256GB / 512GB of storage. It delivers up to 45 TOPS of AI computing power and supports Windows 11's Copilot+ AI features. This is the first time Microsoft has implemented a completely fanless passive cooling design in its flagship Surface Pro product. Combined with the energy efficiency advantages of ARM architecture, the battery life can reach approximately 12-16 hours, making it perfect for everyday light office work.
The new device features a 12-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2196x1464, maintaining Surface's signature 3:2 aspect ratio. The screen supports a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz, and the entire device weighs just 686 grams (1.51 pounds).
It's important to note that due to size changes, this Surface Pro is not compatible with older Type Cover keyboards. Microsoft has designed a new dedicated keyboard for it, featuring a flat layout. The stylus pen has also been completely redesigned and must be purchased separately. It now attaches to the back of the device for charging. In terms of connectivity, the Surface Connect charging port has been officially discontinued and replaced with two USB 3.2 Type-C ports.
This new Surface Pro is clearly Microsoft's strategic move to redefine the positioning of ARM tablets. It continues the lightweight philosophy of the Surface Go but offers comprehensive upgrades in performance, battery life, and design. : What hasn't been mentioned: this is basically the fully downgraded version of the Surface Pro 11. The screen is smaller; storage is downgraded (the easily replaceable SSD has been replaced by UFS); the Surface Connect charging port has been removed without adding a new port to make up for it; both USB 4 ports have been reduced to USB 3.2; the CPU went from the worst 10-core Plus to just 8 cores; no more power adapter included; the new keyboard cover can't be angled anymore and has to lay flat; and the stylus can't be stored in the keyboard cover—it has to magnetically attach to the back of the screen now. With cutbacks in every single aspect like this, how much has the price been reduced? Only from $999 to $799. And that’s WITHOUT the keyboard and pen included!
