Google Earth Ushers in the AI Restoration Era

Recreate ancient and modern worlds by entering coordinates

Google Earth recently announced the integration of the Nano Banana image generation tool. Based on the Gemini 3 model, this tool uses AI technology to provide visual predictions and reconstructions for geographic coordinates, and it is now officially available.

The official showcase includes many interesting examples, such as reconstructing the ruins of Pompeii into the bustling streetscape before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, or automatically generating an encyclopedia-style infographic of the Statue of Liberty with details like height and materials. After generation, users can continue to refine details using the Refine Image feature and save it to their own Google Earth project.

Core Use CasesOfficial Feature Description
Historical ReconstructionClaims to instantly transform ruins into the bustling Roman streets of 78 AD.
Real Estate PlanningFor the real estate sector, envisioning vacant land as a professional-grade commercial area.
Building PreviewVisualizing buildings before groundbreaking, such as a cabin built with local sustainable materials.
Encyclopedia InfographicAutomatically generates infographics with height, materials, and other details based on landmarks (like the Statue of Liberty).

It's important to note that Nano Banana 2 is initially only available on the Google Earth web version, while the Android and iOS apps are not yet compatible. For users accustomed to viewing maps on their phones, they will need to wait for a future update.

Although Google hopes it will become a new tool for historical restoration, urban planning, and creative design, AI-generated content is essentially based on model speculation and is not real historical or future imagery. Especially when it comes to historical scenes or future predictions, it should be used for reference only and not as factual evidence.
