[Expired]Valve Delays Again | Steam Machine Postponed

Worth the Wait or Just Hype?

The waves of memory and hard drive price increases have finally hit Valve! Valve has officially confirmed: the originally scheduled Steam Machine launch has been delayed to the first half of 2026. With both pricing and timing pushed back, this "first delay" has truly broken many longtime fans' hearts. 💸

Steam Machine 延期

In today's world where AI giants are frantically buying up components, even Apple is feeling the pressure. With costs skyrocketing, will the Steam Machine be a "dream machine" or just an "overpriced gimmick"? Here's the core information we've compiled:

🔹 Performance: Good enough, with 4K largely "upscaled"

Valve engineers claim its performance exceeds 70% of computers on the market, but players seeking native resolution quality might be disappointed. Its 4K@60FPS is primarily achieved through AMD FSR technology (AI upscaling).

Hardware Specs (Expected) Editor's Comments
CPU: 6-core mid-range processor Solid mainstream performance, reliable operation
VRAM: 8GB Just meets requirements for modern AAA titles
System: SteamOS (Arch Linux) Supports Windows dual-boot

🔹 Price: Not following the loss-leader hardware model

The Steam Machine isn't a pure gaming console, but rather a mini gaming PC running a custom operating system. Valve doesn't plan to sell at a loss, with pricing expected to start at $700. Linus Sebastian (Canada's freebie king) estimates a comparable DIY build would cost around $670.

Feature Traditional Console (PS5/Xbox) Steam Machine
User Experience Plug and play Requires some technical skills
Game Cost Need to repurchase console versions Perfect compatibility with existing Steam library
Noise Integration Good Excellent (Valve's strength)

If you want a compact, quiet PC for your living room that can stream games smoothly, it's still the top choice. But with memory prices continuing to rise, Valve may still face pricing risks in the future. For players who have been waiting patiently, all we can say is: "Good things come to those who wait, but Gabe, don't keep us waiting too long!"

: Pretty good. I'm not too concerned about the specs, I just need a device that can directly connect to the TV. [买买买][买买买]

: 7640u 7600m, still doesn't support FSR 4.0 and frame generation. Might as well go for a custom PL, lower power consumption, and can use cheaper LPDDR memory.

: The hardware specifications are exactly the same as those of a gaming laptop with the 7640HS (6-core Zen 4) and RX 7600M (28 CU RDNA3 + 8GB VRAM). It's probably just leftover AMD GPU inventory from gaming laptops that lost out in the competition three years ago. In terms of performance, the RX 7600M is roughly equivalent to a mobile RTX 4050. If it's around $500, it would be quite competitive. If it's over $700, then it's not worth considering. If the rumored 512GB version is priced at eight or nine hundred dollars, then it's basically dead on arrival.

: The delay is probably due to the memory.
