Handheld Mode Finally Goes "HD"
Recently, Nintendo quietly pushed the 22.0.0 version system firmware update for Switch 2, introducing the brand new—Handheld Mode Boost.
Nintendo used to celebrate something as simple as Bluetooth headphone connectivity with a dedicated tweet, but now they've released a game-changing update for Switch 2 without even a single announcement?
Let's take a look at what's included in this update:
- Core functionality: This option is turned off by default. When enabled, it allows original Switch games to use TV mode rendering specifications directly in Switch 2 handheld mode.
- Visual quality improvement: Games that previously could only run at 540p or 720p in handheld mode now all upgrade directly to 1080p.
Players report that "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" has finally escaped "graphics hell," while "Pokémon Legends: Arceus" and "Metroid Prime Remastered" show visibly improved clarity.
All Switch 2 players should hurry to enable this manually in settings—don't let your new console keep collecting dust!
