The highly anticipated Metroidvania game "Hollow Knight: Silksong" has seen explosive popularity since its release on September 4, even temporarily crashing servers on multiple gaming platforms.
However, as players delve deeper into the experience, controversy regarding the steep difficulty curve and harsh exploration penalties continues to brew, with the Steam Simplified Chinese positive review rate dropping to 40% (mixed).
In response to feedback, developer Team Cherry has announced details of their first patch (v1.0.28470), which will be released across all platforms around September 17 (PC public test branch is already available). The update highlights include:
Difficulty adjustments: Early bosses "Marsh Winged Lord" and "Shattered Sister" have been slightly weakened
Damage reduction: Enemy "Sandcarvers" damage has been decreased
Economic adjustments: Mid-game bell path and bench prices reduced, with increased silk rewards for relics and verse cylinders
Bug fixes: Addressing issues like cloak loss during Abyss escape, quick map freezes, and enemy positioning problems, with fixes being retroactively applied
Team Cherry has also confirmed that a second patch is already in development, which will continue to optimize the experience based on player concerns.
With the release of this first patch, "Silksong" may somewhat alleviate players' criticisms about the difficulty, but whether this highly anticipated sequel can recover its reputation depends on the extent and speed of subsequent optimizations. After all, in this world of chirping insects and intertwining silk, the real challenge has only just begun.
