Editor's Pick: Apple has officially launched the iPhone 17e, still positioned as the entry-level model, but with more complete upgrades than the previous generation. The price remains unchanged at $599, but the base storage has increased from 128GB to 256GB, effectively doubling the capacity for the same price, making this a substantial upgrade for those who've been waiting.

Performance-wise, the iPhone 17e features the same A19 chip as the standard iPhone 17, and supports Apple Intelligence functionality. According to Apple, it offers up to 2x performance improvement over iPhone 11. The new 16-core Neural Engine is optimized for generative AI, making everyday use and system response more fluid.

This generation addresses a major missing feature — MagSafe has returned. Wireless charging power has increased to 15W (previously only 7.5W), and it also supports faster wired charging, reaching 50% in about 30 minutes. Battery life continues to focus on all-day usage, with a rated 26 hours.

Communication has been upgraded with the self-developed C1X modem, which Apple claims provides cellular performance up to 2 times better than the previous generation, with improved power efficiency. The screen is a 6.1-inch Super Retina display, featuring Ceramic Shield 2 for improved scratch resistance and reduced glare.

The camera system still uses a 48MP Fusion single camera solution, supporting 2x optical-quality zoom and new generation portrait algorithms. IP68 dust and water resistance, Emergency SOS via satellite, satellite messaging, and Find My functionality are all retained.

Color options include black, white, and a new soft pink.

Pre-orders begin March 4, with official release on March 11.

Overall, the iPhone 17e appears to be an upgraded entry-level model that "fills in the gaps" — double the storage, return of MagSafe, and synchronized chip upgrade. If you're not chasing the Pro series' camera configurations but want to experience the new generation chip on a lower budget, this generation is more worth considering than the previous one.
