By that logic, if Sigma isn't worth it, then neither is the GM2. Also, I don't know what kind of usage makes a 1+ pound weight imbalance negligible for you, but as a grown man who works out regularly, using the 720mm GM (similar weight to Sigma's) for 2 hours of handheld shooting leaves my arms and fingers sore the next day.
