Nikon Launches Two New Z-Mount DX Lenses
On October 16, 2025, Nikon officially released two new lenses designed specifically for Z-mount APS-C format cameras:
The large-aperture standard zoom lens NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR and the compact prime lens NIKKOR Z DX 35mm f/1.7.
These two new products cater to the needs of both still photography and video users, bringing a new experience in image quality, handling, and creative flexibility.
- NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR: Lightweight yet Powerful Zoom Tool
As a premium alternative to the kit lens, the 16-50mm f/2.8 VR provides a full-frame equivalent focal range of 24-75mm, covering common perspectives from wide-angle to portrait.
The constant f/2.8 large aperture not only enhances shooting capability in low-light environments but also creates soft background blur effects.
This lens introduces Vibration Reduction (VR) functionality to Z-mount DX format lenses for the first time, providing up to approximately 4.5 stops of stabilization compensation, easily handling handheld shooting.
Additionally, the lens features 9 aperture blades, further optimizing the bokeh compared to the previous 7-blade design, creating more beautiful and natural backgrounds.
Despite its excellent performance, this lens remains lightweight and portable, weighing only about 330 grams (11.6 oz). The programmable control ring on the lens can be customized to adjust parameters such as aperture, shutter speed, or ISO, balancing shooting efficiency with operational convenience.
Video users will also benefit from smooth focus transitions and a design that suppresses focus breathing.

In terms of optical performance, the lens adopts an 8-group, 7-element structure, including one Extra-low Dispersion (ED) element, which effectively controls chromatic aberration and ensures sharp, clear images. The minimum focusing distance is just 16 centimeters (6.3 inches), providing impressive close-up capabilities.
Notably, this lens features an internal focusing design, meaning the lens body length does not change during focusing, enhancing operational convenience and stability.
