Humanoid Robot Optimus to Go on Sale Next Year

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed at the Davos World Economic Forum that his "Full Self-Driving (FSD) requiring driver supervision" feature could receive regulatory approval in Europe as early as next month. Against the backdrop of slowing global car sales growth, Tesla is attempting to create new growth opportunities through software and autonomous driving business.

Musk stated: "We hope to get approval for supervised Full Self-Driving in Europe, and the timeline for China may not be far behind."

In Europe, Tesla's FSD implementation has consistently lagged behind the United States due to stricter safety regulations and a relatively decentralized regulatory framework. The Dutch vehicle authority RDW previously indicated it expects to make a decision on the matter in February. Tesla has stated that once the Netherlands gives its approval, other EU countries are likely to follow suit.

Musk has also repeatedly emphasized that the AI technology Tesla has accumulated in the autonomous driving field will be further applied to the company's humanoid robot project. He has boldly predicted that the number of humanoid robots will eventually exceed that of humans. However, Tesla currently expects to sell humanoid robots to the public only next year, which is later than previously planned.

Industry insiders point out that humanoid robots still face numerous technical challenges before achieving large-scale commercial application. One of the key difficulties is how to endow robots with human-like flexibility and the ability to adapt to complex environments.

Tesla shareholder and Mahoney Asset Management CEO Ken Mahoney stated: "For Optimus, what the market really needs to see is credible evidence of scalable manufacturing, a clear regulatory pathway, and where conditions permit, a clear unit economic model."

For investors, the progress of FSD approval in key markets like Europe will be an important catalyst for short-term stock performance, while the development and commercialization pace of Optimus will be the core observation window for judging Tesla's long-term AI capabilities and "second growth curve."
