Saint Patrick’s Day, though widely celebrated throughout the county is a legal holiday only in Chatham County, GA. and Suffolk County, MA. The celebration recognizes Irish and Irish American culture and includes religious observances, feasting, having a few drinks (every fifteen minutes) and lots of parades…all adorned and tinted in the color green. Savannah hosts one of the largest parades in the country going back to the first public procession in 1824, organized by the Hibernian Society, and in recent counts, has been attended by a million people… all Irish.
