BMW Factory Introduces Humanoid Robots Working 50 Hours Per Week

BMW has officially announced that they will pilot the deployment of AI-driven humanoid robots at their Leipzig factory in Germany. This marks BMW's first introduction of such technology on European production lines, aimed at addressing increasing cost pressures and enhancing manufacturing efficiency.

According to BMW's expected performance metrics, these humanoid robots can operate at high intensity for 5 days per week, 10 hours per day. They will serve as automated collaborative partners on the production line, taking over demanding positions that would otherwise require employees to wear heavy protective equipment.

Morgan Stanley analysis indicates that by 2050, the global humanoid robot market could reach $5 trillion, with large-scale applications in China being a key driving force. BMW's process management lead stated that in the future, humanoid robots might take on certain supplier tasks, allowing more production steps to be completed internally.

Milan Nedeljković, who will become BMW's CEO in May 2026, stated that digital transformation is significantly enhancing BMW's competitiveness in the global automotive market, helping to improve employee working conditions and reduce labor burdens.
